CLICKIN’ CHICKENS
It’s about timing and delivery
A POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
TRAINING WORKSHOP
THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL. CALL US TO SIGN UP FOR THE WAITING LIST.
Saturday, September 6
10am - 6pm
Chickens?!? YES! CHICKENS!!! They might be chickens, but what you learn at this workshop will help you with animal training whether you work with dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, parrots or goldfish. The skills of timing and observation are applicable everywhere. Oh, and it's going to be WAY too much fun! You've totally been waiting for this!
You’ll enjoy this class if:
- You want to practice improving your timing and delivery skills in positive reinforcement training
- You are curious about training chickens with positive reinforcement
- You already have experience training other animal species and want
to expand your knowledge and skills base
- You have some experience in animal training and want an opportunity to practice and observe
- You have very limited experience in animal training and really want to challenge yourself
No animal training experience is neccessary, come as you are and remember to bring your sense of humor!
But Why Chickens?!?
Chickens are 'literal' animals. What you train is what you get, and nothing more. This makes chickens an amazing animal for practicing positive reinforcement training. With improved observation, timing and delivery skills you’ll become a better trainer overall.
Few other animal types will test your timing, delivery and shaping skills like a chicken. Chicken movements are fast. It makes it easy to miss approximations. This workshop offers 3 hours of direct observation and hands-on training with chickens, so you’ll get plenty of practice and have a small group of training buddies to learn with and from.
The special anatomy of a chicken includes a hearty appetite and (usually) a very serious interest in food. Chickens are able to eat a substantial amount at any one time and do so quickly because they don’t need to chew. This allows for higher repetitions and more learning opportunities for both chicken and trainer.
Practice your planning, timing and overall training skills working with an animal that takes what you train literally and learns quickly. Learn a skill with added benefit of coaching, and instant feedback. It’s an opportunity to improve how you train the animals that you already work with.
You will gain both knowledge and experience from this workshop. It offers a unique learning occasion to experience and learn more about positive reinforcement training from a different perspective. It may not be easy, but it will be fun!
Please leave your pets at home. Chicken learners will be provided. Participants will also be supplied with a clicker, training journal and education packet with additional information and resources. All participants will also receive a certificate of learning suitable for framing.
Snacks provided, but please bring your lunch with you, or be prepared to go offsite.
