Dr. Marli Lintner has a fantastic bedside manner and excels at explaining medical information in easy to understand terms.
She has been working with birds since 1984, when she recieved her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Oregon State University. Her decades of experience means your bird will get the treatment it needs as well as the care and love it deserves.
Dr. Lintner opened Oregon's first avian exclusive veterinary practice in the mid 1980's and has been working in veterinary medicine exclusively with birds ever since (that's over 20 years!).
She has worked with parrots of almost every species, as well as poultry, ratites, raptors, waterfowl and avian wildlife. Her avian veterinary experience is almost unparalleled in Oregon.
She has been an active member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians for over 22 years, and attends the AAV International conference regularly. Her presentation of the master level class entitled "The Diagnosis and Treatment of the Pet Chicken" at the 2006 Association of Avian Veterinarians conference in Texas was well received and well attended at both sessions. She most recently presented topics in August 2008 at the AAV conference in Savannah, Georgia.
A recipient of the Mamie Campbell Award, she has volunteered with The Audubon Society of Portland since 1986. In addition to performing veterinary services courtesy, she served as a Board member for 8 years, and served as President for 2 years.
Dr. Lintner is also a member of the Oregon Emergency Response Team for Avian Disease. The team has been preparing for a potential outbreak of Avian Influenza, and Dr. Linter is involved in the action.
Along with her family, Dr. Lintner lives with a small flock of chickens, a cat, and two ponies. They have added a new dog to the family just recently.
Chile, a Slender Billed Conure, also Dr. Lintner's, resides at the Avian Medical Center clinic.

We welcomed Lisa Ewing in March 2006 after she moved to Oregon from Virginia, where she worked as a veterinary technician. She quickly became a favorite of clients, staff and birds alike. She has since been promoted to office manager! With her warm, friendly style, Lisa is great to work with. She has a gift with people and birds, not to mention multi-tasking.
Lisa also has a great eye for interior design, and a strong art talent. She designs many of our displays here at the clinic, and has created artwork for some lucky clients.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Oklahoma State University (the other OSU!), with much of her studies in Animal Behavior. Her senior thesis analyzed avian intelligence! She is currently in the process of learning even more about bird behavior so that she can also offer help in our behavior services area, including individual consultations and classes. She is also aserious urban chicken keeping and care enthusiast, designing and teaching the class "Chix in the City", an introductory guide to urban chicken care as well as co-teaching our "Clickin' Chicken" class. Friendly and knowledgable, she is available for consultations and chicken-related events in the Portland area and throughout SW Washington and Oregon. Just give us a call at the clinic!
Lisa shares her home with a loving husband, two dogs, a flock of urban chickens and a delightful male eclectus.
Lisa found her first bird Vincent (a male Solomon Island Eclectus) when a fellow member of her aviculture society shared that she was hand feeding a variety of baby birds and was in desperate need of a computer. She made the trade and hasn't looked back since!
"Vincent has brought me more joy than I ever imagined possible. I can't envision what I would do without birds in my life. I'm so glad to be working here!"
So are we!
Check out Lisa in our local newspaper! Lake Oswego Review
Listen to Lisa talk about training chickens and watch video of chicken training!

Please join us in welcoming Megan Saul to our practice as full time veterinary assistant to Dr. Lintner! Megan has a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University, with her major studies in pre-veterinary medicine. She intends to purse veterinary school (at OSU, of course!).
Megan has a warm, friendly demeanor and she has quickly become a favorite among birds and clients alike! Her steady hand and calm presence help birds relax during handling in the exam room.
Megan began her work with Dr. Lintner when she was only 14, during a shadowing project for high school. She came to us part-time in 2009, and was promoted to a full time position in January of 2010.
Megan has a special fondness for cockatoos (having lived with both an Umbrella and a Sulpher Crested), but loves all birds... from parrots to poultry.
Megan and Dr. Lintner are currently working on a case study of chickens, looking into diagnostic and treatment options for abdomen issues in hens. We'll let you know what they learn!

We gave a warm welcome to Shauna Martin, who joined our staff in September 2007.
Shauna has earned TWO bachelors degrees (one in Zoology and the other in Psychology) from the University of Washington. She has completed projects in avian behavior and cognition.
Her previous experience with birds includes working with a zebra finch colony at the David Perkel lab at the University of Washington, and an internship at the Cougar Mountain Zoological Park where she worked exclusively with macaws and other parrot species.
Shauna has a sincere and enthusiastic nature that predisposes her to a special talent with parrots. She won over a rather grumpy bird here at the clinic in only a few short days (we think they are in love!).
While she started working as an Animal Care Assistant with us, we expected that she would quickly move into the role of Veterinary Assistant due to her impressive learning ability and attention to detail. She certainly did.
Shauna provides invaluable efforts on behalf of our boarding birds. She's the one who will tackle the cages with a tooth brush and a fine eye for clean details.
You'll also find her making sure that everyone gets exactly what they want for fruits and veggies, as well as an extra toy here and there. The birds have a great friend in Shauna!
We are looking forward to Shauna joining our Behavior Team with her excellent background in psychology.
We are so happy that Shauna has joined our team, we know you will love her!

After being in California since 2005 working as a veterinary technician, Tamara returned to AMC as a technician and veterinary assistant in January 2007.
Tamara has worked with professionally with animals since 2001. Her experience includes cats, dogs, exotics, fish and potbelly pigs! Her passion is birds.
She has 8 birds at home, including a pionus, a white-eyed conure, several lovebirds and two budgies. She also shares her home with two lovable dogs.
Tamara enjoys working with birds and people, and says that "birds add that little spark of sunlight and joy."
She says that being informed about your bird's diet is very important, each bird is an individual and may have different needs. She also says it's vital to understand the signs of good health versus illness in birds. Changes in habits, eating or posture could be an indication of illness.
Tamara has a strong background in customer service, with over ten years of experience in various roles. She has studied biology, art and business.
She loves art, with drawing, painting and watercolors topping her list. Animals are her favorite subject, of course!
Here's a warm Welcome Back, Tamara!

Angie Steagall is the newest addition to the AMC family. She joined us in November of 2011 as a Veterinary Assistant. She quickly adapted to working full time with birds. Angie says that before she could walk she was bottle feeding orphaned kittens and in the early 90's she started volunteering with The Oregon Humane Society, where she became a full time employee for almost a decade. She has also worked as a veterinary assistant at a cat and dog clinic. During her time at OHS, she went to Louisiana to help pets during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Angie spent 2 summers traveling around the US with her German Shepherd Dog, Ely, competing in K-9 Pro Sports Personal Protection. They took 3rd at their first world championships.
Her favorite thing about working with birds is,"The birds are so much fun to work with, they always know what to say to make you smile and they will laugh at your jokes even if no one else does."
Angie lives with an adorable Congo African Grey parrot and a saucy Black Capped Conure at home, along with two beloved dogs, and her lovely little family of three. Angie is fun and enthusiastic, with an amazing work ethic that gets a LOT accomplished, correctly, in a short period of time. She has proven to be a fast learner, already starting to master our gentle handling and restraint techniques, along with positive reinforcement training for parrots and chickens.

Never done with learning, she has earned a diploma in Humane Management from The Humane Society of the United States and a certificate of excellence in Applied Behavior Analysis; Living and Learning with Parrots (with Susan G. Friedman, Ph.D). She attended the November 2005 ClickerExpo in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In September 2007 she attended (and had the amazing opportunity to assist at) the 2007 Veterinary Behavior Conference at The Gabriel Foundation in Colorado. She has also earned a certificate of excellence for "The Art and Science of Training Birds", a bird training workshop taught by Susan Friedman, Ph. D. and accomplished animal trainer, Steve Martin outside of Orlando, Florida in 2005. What she learned there has significantly impacted her work with parrots.
